This course provides a comprehensive review of the role of Wound Care technicians in the Wound Care Specialty. In addition; the skills competency session provides each attendee with the hands-on experience needed to function as a Wound Care Technician Certified. Course participation will increase the knowledge, skills, ability, and confidence of the attendees leading to improved patient outcomes. In addition to class participation, all attendees are required to complete 8.0 hours of hands-on foot care skills review with a certified Foot Care professional i.e., Podiatrist or a Certified Foot Care Nurse. Upon successful completion of the program, all attendees will receive OWCNAHP certification as a \u201cFoot Care Certification\u201d (FCC) title which is valid for (4) years and verifiable online at <strong>www.woundcarenurses.org.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: Upon successful completion of this program, non-Licensed individuals will receive the title \u201cFoot Care Technician\u201d.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>Course Objectives<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Define Anatomy and physiology of the nail and foot.<\/li>\n<li>Identify Diseases affecting the lower extremities &amp; Functional Disabilities.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding Levels of Care in Foot Care: Level-1, Level-2, Level-3<\/li>\n<li>Foot Care: Scope of Practice<\/li>\n<li>Identify safe techniques of cutting the toe nails and removing hyperkeratotic lesions.<\/li>\n<li>Appropriate use of: nail nippers, curettes, stainless steel rasp or file, manual sanding files, powered rotary tool.<\/li>\n<li>Infection control: Techniques and protocols which will prevent cross contamination of instruments, equipment, environment, patient exposure.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the use of testing modalities such as the 5.07 Monofilament, tuning fork, Doppler.<\/li>\n<li>Principles in the Care of Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers.<\/li>\n<li>Assessment of ulcers on the foot.<\/li>\n<li>Foot conditions: Acute &amp; Chronic disease manifestations<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the role and scope of practice as a Foot care certified professional.<\/li>\n<li>Describe strategies to prevent foot problems and complication including shoe gear, socks, pads, taping, cleansing and moisturizing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>Scope of Practice<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical Assistant (MA), Nurse\u2019s Aide (NA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Paramedics and other non-Licensed healthcare workers. Level-1 Care.<\/li>\n<li>Licensed vocational Nurse \/ Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN\/LPN). Level1 &amp; 2 Care<\/li>\n<li>Registered Nurse (RN). Level 1, 2, &amp; 3*. Level 3 care may require medical provider\u2019s order.<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) &amp; Physician Assistant (PA). Full Scope.<\/li>\n<li>Foot Care Technician (FCT) role requires understanding of the care skills and tasks considered as \u201cRoutine &amp; Preventative\u201d. Level-1 Care<\/li>\n<li>Foot care certified (FCC) role requires successfully completion of the FCC program for the RN &amp; LVN, APRN &amp; PA Licensee.
