Advanced Health Institute Clinical Preceptor Program

PROGRAM: MSN/DNP
ROLE: NURSE PRACTITIONER | CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST

AHI offers intensive evidenced based clinical practicum for APRN students enrolled in MSN & DNP programs nationally. This Clinical program provides comprehensive preparation for the students to assume the role as an Advanced Practice Nurse. As a clinical partner in health education, AHI is committed to ensure that each student is adequately trained and equipped with advanced practice knowledge and skills to deliver safe and high quality health care. AHI’s goal is to work in a partnership with the different contracted clinical sites to deliver the most effective and thorough clinical practicum and learning experience to our students.

Objectives

The objective of this clinical program is to provide each student with the experiential learning experience with the hands on advanced practice skills; led by a licensed and certified preceptor with expertise in the management of clients with acute & chronic health conditions.

Clinical Facilities

The APRN role is developed through the amalgamation of theoretical knowledge and diverse clinical experience. AHI has acquired contractual agreements with several different clinical sites offering specific medical specialty experience for the students. Specific clinical practice sites are selected based on client populations, available resources, and student academic needs for professional role development and attainment of specific advanced practice nursing role competencies.

AHI Faculty & Preceptors
  • Must have a Graduate (MSN) or a Doctorate (DNP) degree with some additional qualification in a specialized clinical area.
  • Must hold an unencumbered license to practice in the State in which he/she practices.
  • APRNs must have Advanced Practice license with national certification.
  • Must have at least one year of experience in the clinical practice area.
  • Must hold prescriptive authority for students who plan to apply for prescriptive authority.
  • Nature of practice must be congruent with clinical experiences needed by the student.
  • Must submit license, credentials, and an updated curriculum vitae (CV) to AHI.
Clinical Practicum Scheduling

All Students are expected to be flexible (i.e. time, location) to maximize their learning experience opportunities. Although AHI makes every effort to schedule the students between Monday through Friday during the usual office hours for primary care placements, however urgent care, retail clinics, and other approved sites use the full availability of 24 hours, seven days a week with placements on nights and/or weekends included. Clinical practicum hours are to be coordinated and scheduled at the convenience and availability of the preceptor without interfering with student’s academic schedule and responsibilities.

ROLE: NURSE EDUCATOR | CLINICAL NURSE LEADER

AHI offers an intensive evidenced based clinical practicum for nursing master or doctorate level students enrolled in MSN & DNP/PhD education programs nationally. This Clinical program provides comprehensive preparation for the students to assume the role as a nurse educator/clinical nurse leader. As a clinical partner in health education, AHI is committed to ensure that each student is adequately trained and equipped for advanced functional roles that require leadership, expertise, and accountability. AHI’s goal is to work in a partnership with the different contracted clinical entities to deliver the most effective and thorough clinical practicum experience to our students.

Objectives

The objective of this clinical practicum is to provide each student with experiences in designing, implementing, evaluating, and revising educational programs for nurses. The MSN/DNP practicum experience awards the nurses an opportunity to apply academic theory in a real world environment. Students are equipped with the skills to serve as faculty in Baccalaureate/Graduate nursing programs and in health care delivery systems. The DNP prepared nurses conduct innovative research; evaluate current clinical policy and programs in preparation to lead health care organizations. The DNP practicum prepares nurse scientists to improve the health outcomes in vulnerable populations, health policy, and clinical practice.

  • Use evidence- based literature to design curricula and presentations that facilitate the learning of nursing students, patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Effectively communicate your knowledge and share your experience with others.
  • Conduct research to extend nursing knowledge in clinical practice.
  • Design and test nursing strategies to improve the health outcomes in selected patient groups.
  • Design and test clinical policy and procedures for outpatient clinical entities and educational programs synthesizing evidence-based literature.
  • Demonstrate professional leadership in the coordination and evaluation of safe quality health care in a variety of healthcare settings.

AHI offers intensive evidence based clinical practicums of various time lengths to meet the needs of students in Nursing Informatics programs at Masters and Doctoral level programs nationally. This practicum program provides comprehensive preparation for the the studnets to assume roles as informatics trained nurses. As a clinical partner in health informatics education, AHI is committed to ensuring each student is adequately trained and equipped with nursing informatics practice knowledge and skills to deliver safe and high quality health care. AHI’s goal is to work in a partnership with the different contracted clinical sites to deliver the most effective and thorough clinical practicum and learning experience to our our students.

Objectives

The objective of this informatics practicum is to provide each student with the experiential learning experience with the hands on advanced practice skills; led by an informatics preceptor with expertise in the area of clinical informatics.

Specific clinical practice sites are selected based on student preferences, patient populations, available resources, and academic needs for professional role development and atainment of specific advanced practice nursing role competencies.

On-Site Training

Medical facilities, clinics and home health agencies can request training at their facility through AHI Education Outreach program. This option is convenient and effective for groups or when several staff members are interested in a particular educational program. Scheduling an educational event at your own facility allows you to customize the training program that would fit your specific area of practice and by selecting your preferred dates and times that would be most convenient for your staff.
