The Wound Care Technician Certification (WCT-C) course is a national leading training program framed to meet the basic educational needs of the non-licensed assistive personnel caring for clients with wounds in different healthcare settings. This course provides a comprehensive review about the role of Wound Care Technician in the Wound Care Specialty. In addition; skills competency session provides each attendee with the hands-on experience needed to function as a Wound Care Technician Certified. Course participation will increase the knowledge, skills, ability and confidence of the attendees leading to improved patient outcomes.

Course Objectives
  • Anatomy & Physiology of the skin.
  • Phases of wound healing.
  • Basic fundamentals of wound care.
  • Classification of wounds: Identification & Management.
  • Wound Care Dressings: Properties & Uses.
  • Types, properties and uses of wound debridement.
  • Scope of practice. Role of Wound Care Technician: Assessment, Documentation, Infection Control, Clinical support and Monitoring.
  • Skills Lab: Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) Dressing, Wound culture technique, Compression therapy, Aseptic dressing change technique, Circulation assessment utilizing Doppler and wound digital imaging and measurement technique.
Scope of Practice
  • Medical Assistant (MA), Nurse’s Aide (NA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Paramedics and other non-Licensed healthcare workers.
  • Wound Care Technician role requires understanding of the care that is being ordered by the attending medical provider and the proficiency in wound care skills and tasks.
  • Wound care Technician Role: (1) Wound care skills, (2) safety/emergency procedures, (3) basic patient care skills, (4) infection control, (5) communication and interpersonal skills, (6) care of cognitively impaired clients, (7) focused assessments, (8) carrying out delegated tasks / reporting, and (9) wound care materials & supply management
  • Wound care technician performs assigned tasks assigned by a licensed clinical staff member of a wound care team. Wound care technician utilizes specialized knowledge, training and skills, which are based on the clinical research and application of the principles of wound management as acquired by completing a specialized training program.
  • Wound care technician requires clinical supervision / delegation of a medical provider or a licensed nurse.
  • Wound care technician shall perform his/her duties per the prescribing medical provider orders with a focus on patient safety, and function within the parameters of the legal guidelines and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting.

Course Format

This is an (8) Eight-hour program and may be taken online or in person. Online attendees may complete hands on skills competency with a qualified preceptor:
